Crime Does Not Pay International is an educational initiative born from real-life experience and transformed into a model for crime prevention, peace education, and human development. Our journey began inside the Colombian penitentiary system, where some of the most difficult realities of violence and conflict became an opportunity to demonstrate the power of education, nonviolence, dialogue, and responsible decision-making. Today, that experience guides a model designed to reach people and communities far beyond prison walls.

Our unique story: From experience to transformation

What makes Crime Does Not Pay International unique is that its educational model was not created only from theory. It was born from real-life experience inside Bellavista Penitentiary in Medellín, Colombia, where violence, conflict, overcrowding, and human adversity became powerful tools for transformation.

What began inside Bellavista evolved into an educational approach designed to prevent violence and crime through nonviolence, reflection, responsible decision-making, peaceful conflict resolution, and positive leadership. Today, that experience provides practical lessons that can be adapted to schools, universities, communities, and institutions.

Our experience has taught us that violence is not an inevitable destiny. It is a learned behavior—and what is learned can be unlearned. Through education, reflection, nonviolence, and responsible decision-making, people can transform their lives and become positive leaders in their families, institutions, and communities.

Beyond prevention: Cultivating peace leaders

Crime Does Not Pay International goes beyond crime prevention. Our educational model seeks to develop Peace Leaders—individuals capable of making responsible decisions, resolving conflicts peacefully, exercising positive leadership, and influencing their communities through a culture of peace and legality.

Because the model is adaptable, it can be applied across different social, educational, correctional, and institutional environments. Participants are not only encouraged to transform their own choices, but also to become multipliers of knowledge and positive change within their families, schools, communities, and institutions.

For more than two decades, Crime Does Not Pay International has reached more than 20,000 people through education, crime prevention, nonviolence, leadership development, and peacebuilding initiatives. Our impact goes beyond individual transformation. Through our Train the Trainers model, participants can become Peace Leaders, multiplying what they have learned within their families, schools, communities, and institutions.
